Brainspotting is a therapeutic modality to help people navigate through various emotional and psychological issues. This innovative method, which evolved from EMDR therapy, works to get to the root of painful emotions and stuck patterns.

Brainspotting was developed by David Grand, PhD in  2003. Based in principles of neuroscience and somatic psychology, a core understanding of this modality is that our eyes are linked to the brain and our internal processing mechanisms. As such, where you look affects how you feel.

While more traditional talk therapies primarily engage the cognitive and conscious aspects of the mind, Brainspotting reaches the deeper areas of the brain which are difficult to access via talk therapy. In fact, the therapist actually does not talk much during a Brainspotting session!

Brainspotting is an effective alternative to talk therapy, allowing people to address the root of their  issues. Brainspotting helps to decrease intensity around fears, painful memories or emotions, and past traumas, not only from our brains, but from our bodies as  well.

Brainspotting is particularly effective in working with:

  • Anxiety and Stress
  • Painful Emotions
  • Trauma
  • Performance, such as sports, theater, or public speaking
